"We are committed to doing everything possible to keep them out of the Great Lakes, but it's too soon to say what the response would be at this point," said John Rogner, director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Officials said they have more samples yet to process, but it takes 10 to 14 days to do that, so they may have more evidence soon of how far the carp have moved.
So far, DNA evidence has shown them in several rivers, canals and locks downstream from Chicago.

Fishmongers who insist on sourcing direct from day boats have been left high and dry over the past week, with a meagre selection to offer customers.
It is a result of days of relentless high winds, combined with high tides, which made it impossible for smaller boats to go out, except in rare weather windows.

Allandale Tarn in Polbeth was just what the weatherman ordered, so we set off early doors just in case.
It was fairly quiet to begin with and conditions were nigh on perfect, with fish dimpling all over the lochan.

JOHN Wilson of Middlesbrough caught the biggest trout of the week at JUBILEE LAKES - his rainbow weighing in at an impressive 16lb 6oz.
It fell to a Cat's Whisker, and was one of two rainbows of over 16lb caught over the last few days.
Olive patterns of all sizes have been effective with Buzzers, Bloodworm, Dawson's Olive and Zonkers all taking fish.
